Tennessee Vols coaching rumors and a former player heavily criticizing Butch Jones lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017.

It remains a dark time in Knoxville. But it’s also a time of excitement. The Tennessee Vols are in the midst of their third coaching search this decade after firing Butch Jones, and there’s a lot of sports to get to as well.

That makes this one of the best news times on Rocky Top because we’ve got a lot to bring you. As we get set to give you our morning updates, note that this football season is actually buried in our list of news stories to bring you. That’s incredibly rare.

However, we’ve got two separate stories on the Tennessee Vols’ coaching search to bring you. And we also have a former player lashing out at Butch Jones.

Then we get to the football season. Oh, there’s also a basketball game tonight. That’s on here as well. But let’s start with the news surrounding the coaching search.

Source: Gruden showing interest in Vols – John Brice, Brice’s Views from Rocky Top

Longtime Tennessee Vols reporter John Brice added a ton of fuel to the fire of Jon Gruden rumors on Monday. Brice reported in his blog that six different sources have told him Gruden is interested in the job and seriously considering it, to the point that he has actually called potential assistant coaches already.

"The overtures to Jon Gruden, a Super Bowl champion coach, the NFL’s most recognizable broadcast voice and one-time UT assistant coach in the 1980s, are very real and much further along than at any point in any of Tennessee’s previous courtships to the mega-star football mind."

Kacy Rodgers could be Vols coach – Daniel Popper & Manish Mehta, New York Daily News

Before the Grumors took a huge turn Monday, a report surfaced that the Tennessee Vols were interested in New York Jets defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers to be their head coach. "It hasn’t been determined yet whether Rodgers will interview for the job. Rodgers, a Humboldt, Tenn. native, has spent the last three seasons as the Jets’ defensive coordinator under Todd Bowles. He previously coached in the SEC as the defensive line coach at Arkansas for the 2002 season. The 48-year-old also spent three seasons on the Middle Tennessee State staff from 1999-2001."

Former Vol Marlin Lane lashes out on Butch Jones – 4th and Truth

On a podcast Monday, former Tennessee Vols running back Marlin Lane blew the lid off Butch Jones. He said that Jones derailed his NFL career by criticizing him to pro teams, and he also alleged that Jones wanted to use him to get rid of players he didn’t want. Here’s a quote from him.

"“He used me to somewhat run a couple of players off the team that he didn’t want on there. You know, like threaten kids’ life. It’s either his way or he’ll take their future away from them or put them on a one-year scholarship probation.”"

Tennessee football updates for LSU week – Dan Fleser, Knoxville News Sentinel

Amidst all the coaching rumors and the look back on Butch Jones’s career, the Tennessee Vols still have two football games left. And interim head coach Brady Hoke addressed the media for the team as they look ahead to the LSU Tigers this week. Hoke held a closed practice and did not provide any injury updates, saying he’d know more later in the week.

"With Jarrett Guarantano unable to play because of a right ankle injury, freshman Will McBride started at quarterback Saturday at Missouri and played the entire game.Wide receiver Marquez Callaway missed the Missouri game with an ankle injury.
