3. Greg Schiano has a rocky relationship with Peyton Manning.

Deal-breaker. Seriously, how could the Tennessee football program even consider a guy who was at odds with the greatest face of the Vols in recent history? That’s exactly what you would get in Knoxville if Schiano had become the head coach.

  • Remember what we said about Schiano on the kneel-down against the Giants? Well, according to that same NFL.com report in 2013, Manning reportedly cussed out Schiano for a similar incident.

He had apparently tried the same thing on Manning and the Broncos after Denver had won the game 31-23 and was trying to run out the clock in December of 2012. According to Michael Bennett, Manning cussed out Schiano afterward as a result.

Sorry, but that’s reason enough. If Manning clashes with a guy like that, then Tennessee football should avoid him at all cost. Peyton Manning represents the university in the best way on the national stage.

At no point should John Currie and Jimmy Haslam III show the arrogance to ignore somebody’s tension with Manning. And there are no reports that we have found to show they ever made amends.

So that makes it pretty clear Currie and Haslam thought they were greater to the university than Manning. And that alone displays another level of incompetence.

Again, this was a terrible move for many reasons. And here, once again, we found a great one for Vols fans to use when protesting this hire. But now, let’s go to the field.
