The incompetence of the Tennessee Vols has reached new heights. It’s only fitting for Lavar Ball to become the Volunteers’ new athletic director.

John Currie, Jimmy Haslam III and the Tennessee Vols administration are so incompetent that they made the most profitable program in the SEC the laughingstock of the conference. Given their resources, they have drastically underachieved in every way.

If Currie wasn’t making terrible decisions, the incompetent administration was nixing his good ones. If he was making bad decisions, it was at the hands of an incompetent failure in Haslam.

Well, now Currie is gone, and the administration managed to screw that up. In response, the Tennessee Vols have a clear choice for their new athletic director: Lavar Ball.

Look, this program is a circus. The fans and Vol Twitter are more competent than the leadership. That difference in competence and intelligence is what made it a circus. And nobody knows more about circuses than Lavar Ball.

Ball managed to hype up his overrated son, Lonzo, into the No. 2 draft pick. As a failed college basketball player, he still made himself relevant on the national stage to the point that he got in a Twitter war with the president! And he is an all-around entertaining guy.

Ball’s ascension of his family to relevance by itself is an overachievement. That’s using limited resources to become famous.

If he can do that, imagine what he’d do with a large athletic budget! He’d sell the university so hard that Bill Belichick himself would want to come coach the football team.

And the Tennessee Vols would be the most entertaining program ever. Can you imagine all the jerseys and shoes in every sport made by Big Baller Brand? And picture LaMelo Ball, the most talented of the brothers, coming to Knoxville to win a national championship for Rick Barnes and Tennessee Basketball.

I’m telling you, this is what the Tennessee Vols need to do. Lavar Ball would be perfect for Knoxville. He knows how to promote and get the most out of the resources he has.

After a decade of completely squandering resources, this program needs that.

In fact, forget making Ball the athletic director. Make him the chancellor of the whole university. Get rid of Beverly Davenport, who has messed this up as much as anybody. Instead, let Ball run the show. At the very least, fans could enjoy the ride rather than sulk in the incompetence.
