The Tennessee Vols fans are in the Top 20 of college fanbases. Meanwhile, the Volunteers came in at No. 185 overall in the 2017 FanSided Fandom 250.

Taking power into your own hands to run off a coach and an athletic director definitely warrants being one of the Top 20 fan bases in college. And that’s exactly where the Tennessee Vols came in for FanSided’s 2017 Fandom 250.

Tennessee came in at No. 185 overall in the list. Although many fans may feel they deserve higher spots, don’t forget that the Fandom 250 encompasses fans of literally everything.

As a result, slightly ahead of the Tennessee Vols fans were fans of Chick-fil-A fans, The Beatles, and the television show ‘Friends.’ So yes, they could include anything.

As part of the Tennessee Vols community, we here at AllforTennessee aren’t shocked that Tennessee made the list. And given what happened with recent events, there’s a strong case to make that the fans should be significantly higher.

After all, no other fan base on this list can brag about so heavily impacting the entity of its fandom.  As we noted, Rocky Top literally grabbed the athletic administration by its throat and forced competence upon it.

In the process, they ran off a bad coaching hire and an athletic director, brought back a beloved figure to replace that athletic director, maneuvered their way into getting a very solid coaching hire, and took power back from the top booster the school has. Hey, when your booster is an incompetent businessman who runs the Cleveland Browns, what choice do you have?

Tennessee Vols fans took ridicule from the national media with pride when all of that happened. And they managed to silence the national media when it became very clear that the final results were much better.

There’s also the heavy support behind football, men’s and women’s basketball and other sports. But this year, the story in Knoxville was the way Tennessee Vols fans began to make decisions for the university.

All of that was more than enough to warrant them making the Fandom 250.
