Tennessee football recruiting had a great early signing period day as junior college players Jordan Allen and Dominick Wood-Anderson picked the Volunteers.

The splash came when Jeremy Pruitt plucked four-star junior college tight end Dominick Wood-Anderson right out from under Nick Saban’s nose. The guy is one of the top JuCo players in the country, and him picking Tennessee football was huge.

But that wasn’t enough for Pruitt and the Vols. And later in the night, they secured a commitment from three-star defensive end Jordan Allen. Like Wood-Anderson, Allen comes from a junior college in the West.

Wood-Anderson is from Arizona Western Community College in Yuma, Ariz. while Allen is from City College of San Francisco in San Francisco, Calif. And while Wood-Anderson is the No. 1 JuCo tight end, Allen is the No. 2 ranked JuCo defensive end.

Simply put, these are two guys who add immediate help to this Tennessee football program, and Pruitt continues to help the Vols climb the recruiting rankings in the process. Coming off a 4-8 season and then suffering through a wave of decommitments, Pruitt knew he needed immediate help.

And he found that immediate help in these two guys. Lots of Tennessee football’s recruiting targets on Wednesday were junior college guys. Getting these two were huge.

With the commitments, Tennessee football is much stronger and tougher in the trenches all around now for next year. Pruitt has a class that provides more depth, and he was able to somehow be selective in the process.

Doing all of this while still preparing the Alabama Crimson Tide for the College Football Playoff was even more remarkable. Simply put, Vols fans can be happy.

Tennessee was outside of the Top 60 when the day began. By the end of the night, they had climbed into the top 40, and that was without the two junior college recruits.

Scoring those players on top of a pro-style quarterback and two in-state four-stars from the Memphis area made for a great recruiting day. That’s five guys who can be huge factors for the Vols going forward. And the junior college pickups can contribute immediately.
