The early signing period for recruiting and Tennessee Vols in the Pro Bowl lead the Volunteers news for Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017.

It’s a crazy day on Rocky Top. The Tennessee Vols are set to begin a recruiting period with football that nobody has dealt with before. That includes a plethora of prospects set to announce along with many set to sign. And it will take up the whole day.

Meanwhile, we have news surrounding former Tennessee football players at the professional level. That’s exciting stuff to get to as well.

Also there is some housekeeping with a basketball game coming up to get to. All of this headlines our news on Rocky Top for today.

But let’s start with the Tennessee Vols’ signing period.

Early signing period begins – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols are right in the thick of the early signing period this year. Many of their commitments will sign today, and they have a plethora of other targets set to announce. We’ll keep track on all of this, but the link above is where you can go for a breakdown of the important guys that fans need to know about.

"The new early signing period for college football has arrived.Recruits no longer have to wait until February to sign binding National Letters of Intent and make their college decisions official. They now can do it during a three-day period in December, which runs from Wednesday through Friday."

Two former Vols in the Pro Bowl – NFL.com

The Tennessee Vols put two players in the 2017 Pro Bowl, and one of them is a rookie. New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been shining all year, helping to revitalize the offense with Drew Brees, and he got in his first year in the league. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Malik Jackson of the Jacksonville Jaguars also got in.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers led all teams with a league-best eight selections in the 2018 Pro Bowl, per rosters released by the NFL on Tuesday.…In the NFC, the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles tied for tops in the conference with six picks apiece, led by quarterbacks Carson Wentz (who will miss the game because of a knee injury) and Drew Brees."

Tennessee basketball set to host Furman – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols basketball program is set to host the Furman Paladins on Wednesday night. Rick Barnes’s team will be looking to rebound from a heartbreaking loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels Sunday.

"Coming off their first home loss of the season, the 21st-ranked Volunteers will look to bounce back against a hot Furman team Wednesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. The game will tip at 9 p.m. and will be televised live on SEC Network and streamed online via WatchESPN."
