Tennessee Lady Vols: 5 keys for SEC play in 2017-2018
3. Turnovers have to decrease for the Tennessee Lady Vols.
Again, one of the big things that come with a young team on the perimeter is turning the ball over a bit too much. And the Tennessee Lady Vols have had that problem at times this year. They’ve gotten away with it thanks to their schedule.
However, averaging almost right at 16 turnovers a game with the No. 94 ranked strength of schedule is not a good look. Those turnovers will go up against better teams, and those better teams will capitalize off of them more often as well.
Meanwhile, the nearly 17 turnovers Tennessee forces will go down. See where we’re going with this? The Lady Vols can’t get away with the turnover issues they’ve had in non-conference play to this point.
It’s understandable, but it needs to change. Holly Warlick and the veterans need to do everything they possibly can to make it change.
Too many teams are now running tempo-based systems, and they will destroy this Tennessee Lady Vols team doing that if things don’t change. It’s not the Pat Summitt style to be a team that has issues turning the ball over.
As a result, this is a major thing the Lady Vols need to fix. The only thing really working for them right now is the fact that the perimeter scoring and perimeter defense has been so good to offset it, which we’ve addressed.
For our next key, we address why they’ve been so good. And we talk about how it can continue.
