Rashaan Gaulden leaving for the NFL Draft and another potential Julio Jones lead the Volunteers news for Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018.

Snow continues to pelt much of the eastern part of the United States. The Tennessee Vols are struggling in men’s basketball. And while football loses a couple of players to the NFL, UT fans have to see two of their most hated rivals face off in the national championship.

In a sense, Winter truly has come in a negative way. However, fans on Rocky Top are still pretty excited. That’s because the long-term news for the program is still something to look forward to.

As we get set to bring you today’s news, though, another player departure for the NFL is the big story. And it was a bit of a shock.

But we also take care of some housekeeping for the most positive part of Tennessee Vols athletics right now, the undefeated Lady Vols. And there is a football recruiting story to generate excitement.

So let’s get started with the news of the day.

How Jeremy Pruitt sold Alontae Taylor – Ryan Green, Gridiron Now

Four-star in-state wide receiver Alontae Taylor committed to the Tennessee Vols under Butch Jones. He then decommitted after everything that happened. But Jeremy Pruitt was able to secure his recommitment. How did he do it? Well, he apparently compared him to a former elite receiver he secured on the recruiting trail.

"“Just basically Julio Jones,” Taylor said. “Just be that guy that has an opportunity to go many places, but represent your state and stay home. That was really it. He just kept telling me to be a Julio Jones and stay in-state and represent it.”"
