The Volunteers’ relevance in the title game, Kahlil McKenzie a college bust and NFL Playoffs made our All for Tennessee Vols video show for Monday, Jan. 8.

Back from the holidays, we resumed our daily Periscope show covering the Tennessee Vols Monday. And it’s just in time for the national championship game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs.

It was nice to be off, but it’s great to be back. And it’s perfect timing, as this title game is the sendoff for us to get ready to cover spring news. That includes more basketball, Jeremy Pruitt now fully being committed to Tennessee, and National Signing Day coming up.

Yes, the end of football season doesn’t bring the end of the news cycle on Rocky Top. So here’s today’s Periscope show on the news. We highlight the topics below.

Summary

1. Tennessee Vols’ relevance in the national title game.

Tennessee football’s new defensive coordinator, Kevin Sherrer, is coaching the Georgia linebackers through the title game. Meanwhile, head coach Jeremy Pruitt is on the other side, serving as Alabama’s defensive coordinator through the title game. So even after a 4-8 year, the Vols managed to stay relevant in this game.

2. Kahlil McKenzie declares for the NFL Draft.

Former five-star defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie will forgo his senior season with the Tennessee Vols and declare for the NFL Draft. A member of the McKenzie legacy, he leaves as one of the great college busts in school history.

3. Tennessee Vols men’s and women’s basketball teams rolling.

The Tennessee men’s basketball team got back on track with a huge win over the Kentucky Wildcats Saturday. Meanwhile, the Lady Vols followed that up by moving to 15-0 with a win against the Vanderbilt Commodores Sunday. Holly Warlick’s team is now about to begin a brutal four-game stretch that’s likely to define the season and how good this team truly is.

4. Former Vols in NFL Playoffs.

Numerous former Tennessee Vols were playing in the Wild-Card round of the NFL Playoffs over the weekend. And quite a few of them had standout performances. We recap those top performances, even the ones in losing efforts.
