Vanderbilt basketball can’t seem to catch a break on either side. As the men struggle under Bryce Drew, the women have become a complete disaster under second-year head coach Stephanie White.

Now, to be fair, the Commodores do have the No. 8 ranked strength of schedule. But a 4-13 record overall is just bad. And the only team in the conference they’ve given a game to are the Tennessee Lady Vols of all people.

By the way, that lasted for a quarter before Tennessee got going and took complete control. So it wasn’t much to get excited over.

Simply put, this team is bad. It’s off to its worst start in program history, and it’s clearly the worst team in our women’s SEC Power Rankings.

Considering that White was supposed to be a home run hire, this is not a good look for her second year. She went 14-16 last year with the idea of the future showing promise. This team has taken a significant step backward.

To be fair, this team lost two of its leaders from last year. Meanwhile, three key players have suffered injuries: Kayla Overbeck, LeaLea Carter and Kaleigh Clemons-Green. All of these guys are sophomores who were supposed to take the next step, but injuries have changed everything.

If they can get healthy, we’ll see what this team can do. But with the Missouri Tigers up next, things aren’t set to get any easier. So this team has a lot of work to do to become respectable.
