The Alabama Crimson Tide haven’t had any success, including an NCAA Tournament appearance, since the Rick Moody heydays of the mid-1990s. But now, in her fifth year as head coach, Kristy Curry looks like she could finally get this team over the hump after its first winning season under her last year at 22-14.

This year, Alabama is 12-4 and has had a solid start to conference play. After losing a heartbreaker to the Missouri Tigers to start the play, the Tide reeled off big wins against the Florida Gators and Arkansas Razorbacks to move to 2-1.

Now, the problem with this team is that the 12-4 record has only earned them a No. 78 ranking in the RPI. That’s because they have the No. 144 ranked strength of schedule.

Still, the Tide are playing in the SEC, so they have a great chance to improve that in the coming weeks. But as it happens, they’re going to have to get some big wins to get more into the NCAA Tournament picture. Right now, their best win of the season came in the second game agains the Utah Utes.

This week, a home game agains the LSU Tigers gives them a great chance at a quality win. Then they have to play the Mississippi State Bulldogs on the road and Texas A&M Aggies at home in back to back games. So the next three games of the season will really determine where they are. And getting out of it 2-1 puts them in great shape.
