Tennessee Vols quarterback Quinten Dormady transferring, Jauan Jennings back, and basketball lead our news for the Volunteers on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018.

Welcome to one of the craziest news days in Tennessee Vols history. We already had a big day recapping basketball stories over the weekend and looking ahead to other basketball games. But all of a sudden, football took the lead.

There are two huge football stories to cover today. One involves the transfer of a quarterback, and the other involves the reinstatement of a top weapon. We’ll get to each of those.

Meanwhile, in basketball, a men’s player received significant recognition this past week. We also have updates in the polls to bring you and comments from Rick Barnes.

Oh, and we even have another spring sport to bring you. Simply put, it’s a huge news day. Let’s start with the breaking football news.

Quinten Dormady to transfer – Mike Wilson, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee Vols quarterback Quinten Dormady is set to transfer. Dormady, who started the first five games last year, made his announcement on Twitter. His loss leaves the Vols with one less elite pro-style quarterback. He’ll be eligible immediately as a graduate transfer.

"Guarantano was named the starter before Tennessee played South Carolina on Oct. 14.and Dormady was reportedly left contemplating his future with the program.Dormady elected to have season-ending shoulder surgery in late October to address an injury that former Tennessee coach Butch Jones said “had been bothering him for quite some time.”"

Jauan Jennings set to be reinstated – John Brice, Gridiron Now

Two months after his dismissal from the Tennessee Vols under an interim coach and an athletic director who is no longer here, Jauan Jennings is poised for reinstatement to the football program. His reinstatement comes with stipulations, but he is a major additional weapon for Jeremy Pruitt’s first team.

"After meeting with Jauan Jennings in recent days, as well as discussing the situation with athletic director Phillip Fulmer, Pruitt is likely to reinstate Jennings on a limited basis. Among potential stipulations for Jennings to rejoin the Vols could include a return to on-campus housing, per two sources familiar with the situation and apprised of some of Pruitt’s mandates."

Grant Williams named SEC Player of the Week – SECSports

Despite scoring only nine points against the Texas A&M Aggies, Grant Williams was named SEC Player of the Week this past week. Williams helped lead the Vols to two big conference wins and mainly got the recognition for his work against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

"Williams, a 6-foot-7, 241-pound sophomore forward from Charlotte, N.C., averaged 23 points, and six rebounds in wins at Vanderbilt and against Texas A&M. Williams had a historic scoring effort during UT’s win at Vanderbilt, dropping a career-high 37 points on 12-of-20 shooting in 33 minutes."

Rick Barnes praises Cuonzo Martin – David Cobb, Times Free Press

With the Tennessee Vols set to face former head coach Cuonzo Martin in Missouri Wednesday, Rick Barnes had nothing but good things to say about Martin at Monday’s media session. Barnes said he would “like to think” fans appreciated Martin while he was there. Here’s a snippet of what he said.

"“Because I think he did really a terrific job. I’m not sure how he was truly embraced. If he wasn’t fully embraced, people should be ashamed, because the guy is a heck of a person, he’s a heck of a basketball coach.”"

Men’s Tennessee Vols move up in both polls – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

The men’s basketball team jumped to No. in both the AP and Coaches polls this week after dominating the Vanderbilt Commodores and Texas A&M Aggies. They remain in the Top 15 in the RPI.

"The Vols have now been ranked for seven weeks, with stops at No. 24 (twice), No. 23, No. 21 (twice), No. 20 and No. 19."

Tennessee Lady Vols stay at No. 6 – WVLT TV

After an overtime loss to the Texas A&M Aggies and a road win over the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Tennessee Lady Vols remained at No. 6 in this week’s AP Poll. It was hard to knock them too much for that A&M loss, but the South Carolina win was also a bit unimpressive since it came without A’ja Wilson. UCONN and Louisville were No. 1 and No. 2. Texas, another team Tennessee beat, was also in the Top 10.

"Mississippi State, Baylor and Notre Dame follow the Cardinals, who were second on 30 of the 32 ballots.Tennessee, Oregon, Ohio State and South Carolina round out the first 10 teams in the poll."

Men’s tennis records doubleheader sweep – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols tennis team defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Belmont Bruins Monday to improve to 4-0 on the year.

"The Vols defeated Tennessee Tech 6-1 in the morning match — headlined by a top-30 singles win by junior Timo Stodder — and earned a 6-1 victory over Belmont in the afternoon."
