Analysis of the Tennessee Vols football roster, staff and recruiting along with basketball news lead our All for Tennessee video show for Tuesday, Jan. 16.

We were back from a long weekend that included the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday to cover the Tennessee Vols with another periscope show. And this one had a ton of news in it after an incredible weekend.

As you would have see with our morning report, we had major football news dominate the day. That included the transfer of one player, the reinstatement of another, and a ton of recruiting news. All of that played a role in our coverage today.

On top of that, we had tons of basketball news to get to for the men and women. So it was a huge news day overall for the Tennessee Vols.

Here’s a tweet to the video of our periscope show. You can see a summary of everything we discussed below the following tweet.

1. Quinten Dormady’s transfer affects JT Shrout.

Everybody is wondering if Quinten Dormady’s transfer means Jarrett Guarantano is now the starter for the Tennessee Vols. But I make the case that it’s actually a bigger benefit to JT Shrout, who will push Guarantano hard in the offseason. Whomever becomes the starter, though, they’ll have another weapon, as it looks like Jauan Jennings is back.

2. Staff looks elite.

After completing his on-field staff by hiring David Johnson, Jeremy Pruitt has combined Nick Saban’s defense with Bobby Petrino’s offense in the staff he put together. That may sound crazy, but offensive coordinator Tyson Helton is a product of that offense, working under Jeff Brohm. And with Jennings back and a collection of weapons, the unit could actually look great next year.

3. Recruiting continues to dominate.

The Tennessee Vols are drawing serious interest from another junior college four-star, and they also are in great position to flip a four-star Alabama linebacker. Meanwhile, they secured a visit from a four-star safety.

4. Men’s basketball on a roll.

The Tennessee Vols men’s basketball program moving up three spots in both polls and Grant Williams being named SEC Player of the Week shows that Rick Barnes has the program rolling again. However, they have two rough tests this week against former head coach Cuonzo Martin and the Missouri Tigers followed by the South Carolina Gamecocks. Both are on the road.

5. Lady Vols and what could have been.

The Tennessee Lady Vols got lucky and faced the South Carolina Gamecocks on the road without A’ja Wilson Sunday to get the unlikely win. However, that win makes it more sickening that they aren’t undefeated because they blew that game to the Texas A&M Aggies on the road in overtime last Thursday. Still, they’re 1-1 in their brutal four-game stretch with two more to go against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Mississippi State Bulldogs.
