Last week: Defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M Aggies

Last rank: 7th

The Georgia Bulldogs have two losses while the Tennessee Lady Vols have one. They also suffered a blowout loss to a team Tennessee beat: the Texas Longhorns. So why do we have the Dawgs ahead of the Vols in our SEC Power Rankings?

Well, as we’ve said, these rankings are based on what you’re doing at the moment. And in the same week, a team that beat the Vols at home then lost to the Dawgs at home: the Texas A&M Aggies.

So Tennessee beat Texas who beat Georgia. But Georgia beat Texas A&M who beat Tennessee. And that second one was most recent. As a result, Georgia gets to be ahead of Tennessee right now. They’re other loss is to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, a team the Lady Vols haven’t played yet.

To be fair, Georgia’s strength of schedule is lower than Tennessee’s overall at No. 49, and they have a lower RPI at No. 21. But that win against Texas A&M did wonders for the team’s standing and the respect they just earned. It’s their biggest win of the year by far.

In her third year, Joni Taylor has built a Georgia team worthy of being feared. They are now one of the elite squads in the SEC, and last week proved it. They get a week off to rest on their success, and then they’re about to get another easy win at home with the Auburn Tigers coming to town.

Then the Missouri Tigers come to town. That’s a chance for another quality win to move these Dawgs further up the rankings. We don’t know how it’ll end up, but for now this is the No. 2 team in our SEC Power Rankings.
