Women’s SEC Power Rankings for Jan. 16: Did loss drop Lady Vols?
Last week: Lost to the Georgia Bulldogs; Defeated the Auburn Tigers
Last rank: 9th
The Arkansas Razorbacks have been hitting pars in the most ridiculous ways this year. They have one win against a team in the Top 100 of the RPI and one fluke loss to a team outside of the Top 100. By the way, both games were one-point games.
But amidst all of that, they have an 11-7 record. And they also have a No. 62 RPI rank thanks to their No. 43 ranked strength of schedule overall. As a result, the Razorbacks are at the bottom of the next tier of our SEC Power Rankings. But they are barely here.
That close win over the Ole Miss Rebels and taking care of business on the road against the Auburn Tigers make for two wins better than anything anybody else below them has. And it also makes for more conference wins as well.
However, after two straight losing seasons, Arkansas head coach Jimmy Dykes needs to keep this team above .500 in his fourth year. And if they keep hitting pars, they’ll be just on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament.
A home game against the Florida Gators this week will kill their strength of schedule but will at least get them to .500 in the conference. But after that, they have road trips to the Missouri Tigers and South Carolina to boost their strength of schedule but hurt their overall record.
And then they get the Kentucky Wildcats at home. So 2-2 is the minimum of what the Hogs can do the next two weeks. Then they can reassess where they stand. But 3-1 would be so much better if they can steal a road win.
