The Tennessee Lady Vols face the Fighting Irish on the road in another tough match-up Thursday. Here is the women’s basketball Volunteers’ preview.

After a split in the first two games of their brutal four-game stretch last week, the Tennessee Lady Vols are back on the court for the second half of that stretch. And it starts with a tough game on the road against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Thursday.

At 16-1 and 4-1 in the SEC, Tennessee is one bad minute away from being undefeated, as they choked away a game last week to the Texas A&M Aggies on the road. However they rebounded with a big win on the road against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

South Carolina, however, did not have A’ja Wilson. As a result, it’s still hard to get a full read on this team. That makes this game against Notre Dame a major test.

The Irish are 16-2 overall, and their only two losses are on the road to the top two teams in the country: the Louisville Cardinals and UConn Huskies. Both teams are undefeated.

Now, to be fair, Louisville blew them out. So that’s a bit of a question. But this is still a very good team with seven wins already against Top 30 RPI teams. And they are currently No. 2 in the RPI despite their recent blowout loss due to their strength of schedule.

Winning this game would be huge for the Tennessee Lady Vols and is certain to boost their schedule strength. They follow this up with a huge home game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday.

Splitting the two would be good for them. But winning both will have Holly Warlick’s team looking at a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament if they keep this up. So they have a lot to play for in this game.
