Happy Friday to all Tennessee Vols fans! Well, we’ll say as happy as possible. That’s because it’s been a depressing week on Rocky Top for the two major sports that are currently in season.

As we get set to bring you news from Vol Nation, yes, we are talking about the struggling basketball programs, men and women. One of them is a part of our news this morning. But it’s not the lead story.

No, the lead story deals with another staff move involving a former Tennessee Vols football player. And we have more details on the potential reinstatement of another player. Finally, we also have smaller sports news to bring you.

So it’s a pretty big day heading into the weekend. But let’s start with the news surrounding Tennessee football.

Montario Hardesty likely to join Vols staff – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

Former Tennessee Vols running back Montario Hardesty is likely to join Jeremy Pruitt’s staff. Hardesty started for Lane Kiffin in 2009 in a breakout year that helped him get drafted into the NFL.

"Hardesty, a former All-SEC star, has spent the past year on former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin’s staff at Florida Atlantic, and he spent the 2015 season coaching special teams at Norfolk State.It’s believed that Hardesty will serve in a quality control coaching position on the offensive side of the ball, potentially working with the Vols’ wide receivers."

Jauan Jennings hints at return – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

More news surrounding Jauan Jennings’s potential return hit the internet on Thursday. Jennings had a post on his Instagram account that hints he’s back with the Tennessee Vols. At this point, it seems like his reinstatement has been confirmed outside of an official report.

"Jennings, who was dismissed from the program Nov. 22, wrote on Instagram: “Vol Nation one last season! Support has to be there like never before!”"

Lady Vols lose at Notre Dame – Kenny Hawkins, WJHL

The Tennessee Lady Vols blew a 23-point lead at the No. 5 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish to shockingly lose by 14 points. This was their second loss of the season and comes right before they are set to host the undefeated Mississippi State Bulldogs.

"After taking a 60-50 lead into the fourth quarter, the Lady Vols (16-2, 4-1 SEC) fell into an offensive slump, and were outscored 34-10 to close the game. The Fighting Irish (17-2, 5-1 ACC) were efficient throughout the second half, shooting 66 percent from 3-point range and committing just three turnovers."

Vols soccer coach Brian Pensky awarded extension – WVLT-TV

Tennessee Vols women’s soccer coach Brian Pensky has been awarded a contract extension. Athletic Director Phillip Fulmer noted that this comes on the heels of one of the best seasons in school history.

"Tennessee put together a 15-4-2 record to return to the national scene in 2017—Pensky’s sixth season leading the program. The Vols earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years and advanced to the second round."

Men’s tennis to face Georgia Tech – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols men’s tennis team has three matches this weekend. One is on Friday, and then two are on Sunday.

"The Vols (4-0) face Georgia Tech (2-0) on Friday at 6 p.m. On Sunday, Tennessee hosts The Citadel (0-5) for a pair of matches at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m."
