Men’s basketball SEC Power Rankings for Jan. 22: Vols lose ground
Last week: Defeated Ole Miss Rebels and Missouri Tigers
Last rank: 14th
The Texas A&M Aggies started SEC play with half their team out. They had a series of injuries and a suspension to deal with. The first game they got everybody back, they faced the Tennessee Vols on the road last Saturday. Losing that knocked them to 0-5.

However, despite us having them last place in our SEC Power Rankings then, we noted that the return of guys would get them back on track. They did that just this week with huge wins over the Ole Miss Rebels and Missouri Tigers.
Billy Kennedy’s team had to hold on against Ole Miss, but in the midst of a five-game losing streak, they just needed a confidence boost. And that win carried over to Saturday, when they scored a huge victory over the Missouri Tigers. And the win was pretty significant.
Now, these guys are back on track and looking like the team that reached the Top 5 in the nation earlier this year. Texas A&M remains a Top 40 team in the RPI, at No. 33 overall, thanks to their No. 10 ranked strength of schedule. So they never really fell out of the NCAA Tournament.
The return of everybody and two wins following it was more than enough for us to shoot these guys up this list. Now, though, they need to show they can maintain it. Things get brutal again this week with two road trips. It starts with the LSU Tigers.
If they win there, which they should, then they get a huge chance over the weekend to impress people with the Kansas Jayhawks on the road. Following that are the Arkansas Razorbacks and South Carolina Gamecocks at home. So they have a chance for some more big wins coming up.
