Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer elaborating on Jauan Jennings’s situation leads the Volunteers news for Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018.

With the Super Bowl and National Signing Day two weeks away, it would seem like basketball season in full swing is the story of the day. However, there are multiple football stories for us to still get to.

And today’s news on Rocky Top includes those football stories. But don’t worry, basketball news is still in the spotlight as well.

After all, we have a set of rankings to recap and a preview to bring up. Two stories about football personnel, though, lead the way.

So let’s start with those. The first involves the continuing saga of a player recently dismissed from the team.

Phillip Fulmer comments again on Jauan Jennings saga – WNML

Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer went on the Erik Ainge radio show on WNML Monday. In the interview process, he commented on the Jauan Jennings saga. It looks like Jennings is still technically not on the team. Here’s a snippet of what he said from the interview.

"“He’s got a lot to do to prove that he wants to be on this football team. If history has any kind of truth to it, he won’t make it with what he’s done before. But if he changes and listens and learns and everything, then he’ll get there in the fall. It’s up to him. He can’t blame any other coaches. He can’t blame anybody else. It’s up to him.”"

Stanford QB transfer could land at UT – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

The Tennessee Vols are a candidate to land Keller Chryst, a quarterback transferring away from the Stanford Cardinal. Once a four-star on Rivals, Chryst has been at Stanford for four years but has battled injuries. However, he would be a great addition to the Tennessee football program and immediately help the quarterback race.

"Earl Hansen, Chryst’s former coach at Palo Alto High School, confirmed that Tennessee is “on the list” of schools Chryst is considering.…Hansen said Chryst would be a good fit for a team in need of a pro-style quarterback. Stanford uses a pro-style system, and Chryst also ran a pro-style offense at Palo Alto."

Tennessee basketball falls in AP Poll – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

After splitting games last week, the Tennessee Vols dropped in the AP Poll Monday. However, they maintained their spot in the Coaches Poll.

"Tennessee’s up and down week on the road cost the Vols one spot in Monday’s updated Associated Press Top 25, falling from No. 21 last week to No. 22 this week. The Vols stayed put at No. 21 in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll."

Tennessee Lady Vols drop in AP Poll – WVLT TV

After two losses last week, Holly Warlick’s Tennessee Lady Vols dropped in the AP Poll. That was expected given how badly they failed their four-game stretch.

"The Lady Vols lost to Notre Dame (No. 5) and Mississippi State (No. 2) to fall from sixth to tenth."

Tennessee basketball to host Vanderbilt – UTSports

After splitting a two-game road stand, the Tennessee Vols will host the Vanderbilt Commodores Tuesday night. Tennessee hosts Vandy coming off a huge win over the South Carolina Gamecocks this past Saturday.

"After Tuesday night’s contest, UT heads to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. on ESPNU. Tennessee prepares for a two-game home stand against LSU (Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. ET) and Ole Miss (Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. ET)."
