Women’s basketball Jan. 23 SEC Power Rankings: Lady Vols take significant dive
The Tennessee Lady Volunteers took a significant dive in our women’s basketball SEC Power Rankings for Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018.
A hugely disappointing week for the Tennessee Lady Vols hurt them in a big way for our SEC Power Rankings today. Meanwhile, it’s becoming clearer and clearer where the tiers are in the conference as we head into the final week of January.
This week’s SEC Power Rankings provide a clear No. 1. There is another team clearly on the rise that could get up there very soon. And then there are four other teams who are reasonably among the elite in the conference.
But one of them is trending down massively. And people reading this site probably know exactly which team that is.
Still, the conference has seven teams in the Top 50 of the RPI. Six are in the Top 25. Two more are in the 70 to 90 range, making for nine teams right now that have a legitimate reason to believe they can make the NCAA Tournament.
At the same time, the bottom of the conference is awful. Currently five teams are outside of the Top 100. And they keep rearranging themselves with massive levels of inconsistent play. It actually makes our SEC Power Rankings a bit difficult to do at the bottom.
This week, the rankings could dramatically change again, though. There are two games featuring two Top 25 teams in the conference. Three games overall are scheduled to include two teams in the top half of the conference.
That doesn’t seem like a lot, but it’s enough to change this order up again. So with a collection of exciting games still to come, here are our women’s basketball SEC Power Rankings for Tuesday, Jan. 23.
