Women’s basketball Jan. 23 SEC Power Rankings: Lady Vols take significant dive
Last week: Defeated Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers
Last rank: 5th
The Texas A&M Aggies are a tough home loss to the Georgia Bulldogs away from being No. 2 or maybe even No. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings. They have some seriously impressive wins, and they are on a roll.
Their only other loss is a close road loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks at full strength. But they have a quality overtime win over the Tennessee Lady Vols. And this past week they scored two dominant wins over aspiring NCAA Tournament teams.
As a result, they are looking pretty good right now. Legendary coach Gary Blair continues to do a good job in College Station, and this team could be thinking about a Top three seed in the NCAA Tournament very soon.
After all, Texas A&M does have the No. 8 ranked strength of schedule. And they have the No. 15 ranked RPI. Going forward, though, they are about to have a major break to be able to rest guys.
Their next six games include road trips to the LSU Tigers and Tennessee Lady Vols. If they can split those tests, the other four are against teams outside of the Top 100 in the RPI and at the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings. So they could significantly build up their wins with the upcoming slate.
Heading on the road to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs, they should have 20 wins at the least by that point and should hope to get to 22-5 or at least 21-6. That would make the game very intriguing.
