Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer commenting on neutral site games leads the Volunteers news for Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018.

With basketball and recruiting season in full swing, the Tennessee Vols are giving fans a lot to pay attention to right now. And they don’t need any NFL Playoffs to stay involved and keep paying attention to what’s going on.

Our news on Rocky Top for today includes some of those interesting points. One piece of news involves the potential future of Tennessee Vols football scheduling based on a quote from athletic director Phillip Fulmer.

Tennessee Vols athletic director spoke on The Swain Event Wednesday about the potential for more neutral site games. However, he elaborated on why he’s not a big fan of it. Here’s a snippet of what he said about them.

"“We’re not going to take a home game away from Knoxville. It’s too important to the University and the businesses here. We want to be good partners with our city and state. There’s always the recruiting advantage sometimes that you need to look at, if it’s a big enough game.”"

Holly Warlick insists Lady Vols are still special – Dan Fleser, Knoxville News Sentinel

The Tennessee Lady Vols will be looking to get back on track by hosting the Ole Miss Rebels Thursday night. Despite losing three of their tough four games, Warlick said the team is still special. She elaborated on the problems they have had.

"Coach Holly Warlick on Wednesday characterized the exercise as if it were an excavation, mentioned the problems caused by the angle of the players’ feet on defense or their proximity to a shooter.“It’s so many different segments,” she said, “and it all adds up.”"

Meghan Gregg on preseason softball All-SEC team – SEC Staff

Tennessee Vols senior Meghan Gregg made the 2018 preseason softball All-SEC team as an infielder. Gregg is coming off a year in which she hit for a .437 average with a 1.173 OPS and 15 home runs.

"Florida led all schools with five selections. Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas A&M each have two representatives on the squad, while Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee all had one player named to the team."
