The Tennessee Volunteers have moved up to near the top of our SEC Power Rankings for Monday, Jan. 29, 2018. See where they are.

After winning the challenge with the Big 12 last week, the SEC is looking like a basketball conference. The league went 6-4 despite its best team not competing in it, and that means our SEC Power Rankings spell depth way more than mediocrity now.

After all, the conference is looking tougher than ever. A post by All for Tennessee contributor Billy Williford about the quality of SEC basketball makes a case for it to be the best conference in the NCAA this year.

The Tennessee Vols have played a huge role in this, which we’ll get to. Overall, the league has looked very good.

It’s not very top-heavy, as our SEC Power Rankings will show you. Nobody is really a power house team right now who looks like a potential national champion. However, there are no bad teams either.

Simply put, everybody is good. And that makes these rankings more and more difficult to do every week.

Currently, there are 10 teams in the conference in the Top 60 of the RPI. Another three are in the No. 70 to No. 85 range. That puts 13 of 14 teams squarely on the bubble, and at this point, seven of those teams would firmly be in the NCAA Tournament if the season ended today with another one likely to be in.

But they all know they have a lot of work to do in this brutal league to maintain their spots or improve. So let’s see where they all stand. Coming out of its challenge with the Big 12, here are our SEC Power Rankings for the week of Jan. 29.
