Men’s basketball SEC Power Rankings for Jan. 29: Vols near the top
Last week: Defeated Georgia Bulldogs and Oklahoma State Cowboys
Last rank: 9th
At the beginning of conference play, the Arkansas Razorbacks were wildly inconsistent. It was nearly impossible to peg a team anywhere that could beat the Tennessee Vols but then lose to the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers.

However, Mike Anderson’s team is really beginning to come together now. And they have won three straight games, all of which were against Top 100 RPI teams and one of which was a quality road win against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Now, the Hogs are back to .500 in the SEC and 15-6 overall. That’s more than good enough for us to have them at No. 6 in our SEC Power Rankings. Meanwhile, at this stage, they are firmly in the NCAA Tournament with no question.
After all, these guys are in the Top 25 of the RPI with the No. 23 ranked strength of schedule. And they have two wins against Top 15 RPI teams and another win against a Top 40 RPI team. So the quality wins are there.
The chance for more, meanwhile, is about to come. This week the Hogs have two road trips against the Texas A&M Aggies and LSU Tigers. Both are near the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings, but both are very dangerous. So Arkansas has to take each game seriously. Otherwise, they could generate a bit of panic among their fans. After all, both games are incredibly losable as well. And just a couple of losses could put this team on the bubble.
