Last week: Lost to Missouri Tigers; Defeated Florida Gators

Last rank: 5th

They dropped one spot due to a loss earlier in the week. But with the turmoil across the rest of the SEC and their win over the Florida Gators, the Alabama Crimson Tide start the clear-cut top two tiers of the conference.

  • Avery Johnson’s team has come on strong in recent weeks, despite dropping some games. Sure, they had a rough loss at home to the Missouri Tigers. That is sandwiched between a huge win over the Oklahoma Sooners and a dominant road win over the Florida Gators.

The Tide are definitely among the elite of the conference right now and definitely belong here in our SEC Power Rankings. They have been very good and are in great position right now for postseason play.

Currently, the Tide have the No. 39 ranked RPI with the No. 13 ranked strength of schedule. That’s not a comfortably secure NCAA Tournament, but they would be in if the season ended today. They just need to hold onto that spot.

This week, a road trip to the Mississippi State Bulldogs will test them a bit. But then they have a huge home game against the Tennessee Vols, which will spike their schedule strength even more.

Winning both games this week would be amazing. But splitting would be okay for them as well since they host the LSU Tigers next. Still, they need to at least go 2-1 in those games since they follow that with road games against the Auburn Tigers and the next team in our SEC Power Rankings.
