Eddie Brown. 14. player. 51. . Safety. Los Angeles Rams

Super Bowl XIV

Pittsburgh Steelers: 31

Los Angeles Rams: 19

Another solid performance in a losing effort, Eddie Brown is one of the first former Tennessee football players to have any sort of impact in the Super Bowl. He was among many players who tried, and failed, to end the Pittsburgh Steelers’ dynasty of the 1970s.

In Super Bowl XIV, Brown kept the Los Angeles Rams in this game in the third quarter. At that point, it was still a one-possession game, and he came away with a huge interception. Brown was one of three Rams defensive backs to intercept Terry Bradshaw that day. But his gave the Rams tons of momentum going into the fourth quarter.

Brown was one of two players to end a Steelers drive in the red zone that quarter. After taking a 19-17 lead, Bradshaw drove into Rams territory when Brown made his pick. A second pick by another Ram on the next drive allowed them to close out the third quarter with a 19-17 lead.

Now, Brown did make a huge mistake in the fourth quarter that gave the Steelers the lead, as he did not provide the help he was supposed to on a 73-yard pass to John Stallworth. However, that was as much on Rod Perry, who let Stallworth take the ball away from him. Perry got beat again on the next drive.

So Brown didn’t make the crucial mistakes other Rams defenders made. But he made a play that put them in position to win the game. We should not that he had four return yards too. The interception is just the play that puts him on here.
