The Tennessee Vols men’s basketball rankings and national recognition for Jaime Nared lead our Volunteers news for Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018.

Tennessee Vols football recruiting is the story of the week so far. However, it doesn’t lead any story for today. This morning’s breaking news on Rocky Top has much more of a heavy focus on basketball, both men’s and women’s sports.

As we get set to bring you today’s news, we’ll take a look at the national respect the men’s basketball program is getting. We also have a preview of another men’s game to bring you.

Meanwhile, the Lady Vols have a player who earned national recognition. We’ll bring her up as well. And finally, we have some golf news to bring you.

So taking all this into account, it’s a pretty interesting news day. Let’s start with the national talk surrounding Tennessee basketball.

Men’s basketball Vols jump up in both polls – Mike Wilson, Knoxville News Sentinel

The Tennessee Vols jumped three spots in the AP Poll to No. 15 and five spots in the Coaches Poll to No. 14. Bracketology projections have their seeding at 3 or 4.

"Tennessee has been ranked for 10 straight weeks in the AP poll and nine in the coaches poll."

Jaime Nared receives two weekly awards – WNML

Tennessee Lady Vols senior Jaime Nared was recognized as the College Sports Madness player of the week and the SEC Player of the Week. Nared played a huge role in helping Holly Warlick’s team defeat the Texas A&M Aggies and Vanderbilt Commodores.

"This marks the second time the 6-foot-2 senior from Portland, Ore., has earned national accolades and the third occasion she was selected as the SEC honoree by College Sports Madness"

Tennessee basketball visits Kentucky – UTSports

Riding a five-game winning streak, the Tennessee Vols basketball program will visit the Kentucky Wildcats Tuesday night. Tennessee will be looking to sweep Kentucky for the first time since the 1998-1999 season, and they’ll be looking for their first win at Rupp Arena since the 2005-2006 season.

"Tennessee has held its opponents to under 65 points in each of the last seven outings and now ranks 6th in defensive efficiency in the KenPom rankings.UT is coming off a 94-61 drubbing at home against Ole Miss."

Tennessee Vols in 4th at Sea Best Invitational – Golfstat

The Tennessee men’s golf team is in fourth place after the first day at Sea Best Invitational. On top of that, they had three different golfers score at or under par after two rounds: Lorenzo Scalise, Jake Meenhorst and Brayden Garrison.
