Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 6: Lady Vols move back up
Last week: Lost to Tennessee Volunteers; Defeated Auburn Tigers
Last rank: 4th
The Texas A&M Aggies really didn’t do anything terrible this past week. They also pretty much hit pars. However, we had the Tennessee Lady Vols ranked lower than them in our last set of SEC Power Rankings. So when Tennessee beat them by 15 points, we had no choice but to move them below Rocky Top.
Other teams did enough to move up that it forced us to drop them actually two spots in our SEC Power Rankings. It may be a bit brutal, but as we’ve said, this tier is a cluster of very good teams in the conference who are all interchangeable.
Gary Blair’s team hurt itself by not beating the Tennessee Lady Vols or at least being a bit more competitive. It didn’t help itself by scoring any kind of win over the Auburn Tigers. As a result, these guys are now down to No. 6 in our SEC Power Rankings.
This isn’t much for these guys to worry about, though. Right now, their 18-6 overall record and 7-3 conference record comes with the No. 10 ranked strength of schedule. That’s why they have the No. 15 ranked RPI.
Texas A&M will be playing for a better seed the rest of the way. Two of their next three games give them a chance to beef up their record with the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators at home. However, in between those two games, they face the LSU Tigers on the road. So if they can somehow score a win in that one, it would be a huge boost.
