Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 6: Lady Vols move back up
Last week: Defeated Georgia Bulldogs and Kentucky Wildcats
Last rank: 5th
Talk about getting red-hot! The LSU Tigers were a bubble team just a couple of weeks ago. They were just showing enough to be in the NCAA Tournament, but they hadn’t impressed anybody. Now, they are the second-hottest team in the SEC behind the best team in the SEC!
As a result, although they may not be the most talented or have the best overall resume, we have to put this team at No. 2 in our SEC Power Rankings. Remember, as we have said many times, power rankings are based on how you’re playing at that moment. And at the moment, Nikki Fargas’s team is riding a three-game winning streak.
Two of those wins are against Top 20 RPI teams, and one of them was to the Georgia Bulldogs, who as we already mentioned had been sitting at No. 2 in these rankings for a while. As a result, we had to replace UGA with the Tigers for right now. They are just that red-hot.
At No. 25 in the RPI with the No. 31 ranked strength of schedule, LSU has gone from a bubble team to a team looking to get a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. Maybe they’ll even be able to host a game!
To do that, they have more to prove over the next couple of weeks. The Tigers have four of their final six games against teams in the bottom tier of the SEC. They need to win all four. The other two are at home against the Texas A&M Aggies and at the South Carolina Gamecocks. A split would be nice. But to really prove something, they should be looking to win both games.
