Last week: Lost to Arkansas Razorbacks

Last rank: 10th

The Alabama Crimson Tide have to be sick to their stomachs. They were 13-4 and looking really good. After years of futility and failure, it looked like Kristy Curry’s long-term plan was finally paying off for the program.

She got them into postseason play two years ago and got them to over 20 wins last year. This year was supposed to be the year they take the next step and finally make the NCAA Tournament. But after that 13-4 start, these players have come apart.

Alabama has lost five of six games. Their only win is by two points at home to the Vanderbilt Commodores. Meanwhile, three of their losses are to the Kentucky Wildcats, Arkansas Razorbacks and Auburn Tigers. Kentucky and Auburn are outside of the Top 100 of the RPI, and Arkansas is outside of the Top 80. On top of that, the Tide had the Hogs at home.

As a result, we had to drop these guys in our SEC Power Rankings. You just can’t be that mediocre for such a sustained period of time and suffer such bad losses. Their real significant drop was last week. But as you can see, they did enough to drop a bit again this week.

Currently, Alabama has the No. 99 ranked RPI. Part of that is because their 14-9 record comes with an abysmal No. 93 ranked strength of schedule, and as we just showed you, they can’t even beat the cupcakes on that schedule.

Going forward, as a result, it looks like it’s about to get brutal. The Tide just flopped in their easiest stretch of the year. This week, they host the South Carolina Gamecocks. Next week, they visit the Tennessee Vols. And they close out the season against the Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers. This team is in trouble.
