Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 6: Lady Vols move back up
Last week: Lost to Kentucky Wildcats and Texas A&M Aggies
Last rank: 9th
The Auburn Tigers had a 9-3 start to the season. And like many of the teams down here in these rankings, they were giving off the impression that maybe they could make some noise once conference play began.
Well, that ended fast. Auburn has fallen to 2-8 in the conference, and now, as a result, they are 10-11 overall. Losing two games to the Kentucky Wildcats and Texas A&M Aggies this past week is what dropped them below .500. And they remain in the bottom tier of our SEC Power Rankings due to that as well.
Terri Williams-Flourney’s team has three bad losses on the year, and Kentucky was one of them. Meanwhile, the Tigers have no real resume of decent wins. Even Alabama is nothing to be proud of anymore.
Still, these guys have done just enough to stay ahead of the other teams. With the No. 53 ranked strength of schedule overall, they are outside of the Top 100 of the RPI. And they are clearly at least playing better than Alabama right now. So we had to put them here.
But going forward, things will continue to be tough for these guys. Still, they have a chance to finish above .500 with Alabama on the horizon once again along with home games against the Vanderbilt Commodores and Ole Miss Rebels. But they’d have to win one of their other three games against better teams to do it. That just doesn’t seem likely.
