Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 6: Lady Vols move back up
Last week: Defeated Auburn Tigers; Lost to LSU Tigers
Last rank: 8th
Take a look at these Kentucky Wildcats! Okay, okay, they lost to the LSU Tigers this past week. But that was a red-hot LSU team, and Kentucky has been on an unlikely roll outside of that. At 4-6, they have a better record than anybody else in the conference that we ranked below them.
As a result, we had no problem putting the Kentucky Wildcats at this spot, as the top team in the tier we just labeled. Of course, a 12-12 team being one spot out of the top half of the conference should give you an idea of how bad the bottom half of the SEC is.
However, that also should give you an idea of the roll that Matthew Mitchell’s team is on right now. He’s still likely going to see his NCAA Tournament streak come to an end. But these guys have really turned things around and deserve a ton of credit for it.
That loss to LSU was by two points. Before that, they had won three straight games, and it still seems like they are moving up the charts. All three of those wins, however, came to teams below them in our SEC Power Rankings.
So they are still No. 108 in the RPI with the No. 54 ranked strength of schedule. But at .500, they now get to show how far they have really come. Road games to the Missouri Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs will be brutal this week. But if they can beat Mizzou and then beat the Arkansas Razorbackas at home the next week, this team has a chance to finish real strong. Speaking of Mizzou…
