Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 6: Lady Vols move back up
Last week: Lost to Mississippi State Bulldogs; Defeated Florida Gators
Last rank: 6th
Robin Pingeton has been getting hit with a slight dose of reality over the past two weeks. As a result, we have slowly been dropping the Missouri Tigers in our SEC Power Rankings. The same thing happened this past week, but it was more about what other teams did.
After all, losing to the Mississippi State Bulldogs and beating the Florida Gators is nothing but a par for almost every team in the conference. However, beating Florida snapped a three-game losing streak for the Tigers. As a result, this is clearly not the team that beat the South Carolina Gamecocks earlier in the year.
Missouri is still a very solid team at 18-5 and 6-4 in the conference. And they start the next tier of our SEC Power Rankings, which is just a tier of good teams. They’ll be fine, and they are taking huge strides on a yearly basis under Pingeton.
Currently, Mizzou has the No. 17 ranked RPI thanks to its No. 22 ranked strength of schedule. Being one spot outside of the bottom half of our SEC Power Rankings should show you just how deep the top half of the league is. There is a huge line between the Tigers and the Kentucky Wildcats.
Missouri is a lock for the NCAA Tournament and now just needs to show where it belongs. The question is where they stand among the rest of the SEC. Upcoming games against, the Auburn Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks aren’t going to do much to boost their stock. But at least it beefs up their record before playing host to the Tennessee Lady Vols.
