Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 13: Lady Vols continue rising
Last week: Defeated Vanderbilt Commodores; Lost to Tennessee Volunteers
Last rank: 3rd
Two weeks ago, the Georgia Bulldogs were sitting as the clear-cut second best team in the SEC. At the moment, they had one conference loss, only to the top team in the league. And they were red-hot with nobody unable to touch them.
Now, they are still a very good team. But they’ve shown they belong with just the other top-half teams in the league, not among the elite of the elite like the one clear-cut top team. As a result, we have to judge them like other teams in our SEC Power Rankings. And after a 16-point loss to the Tennessee Lady Vols, they had to drop another spot.
That moves them from No. 2 to No. 4 over a two-week period. Joni Taylor’s team is still pretty amazing, don’t get it twisted. And they have nothing that they really have to prove. But there’s not shot at an SEC regular season championship now.
At this point, the Dawgs need to try to get into that Top 4 seed. After all, this team is still on the outside looking in when it comes to that. Their No. 61 ranked strength of schedule has only allowed their 21-4 overall record to get them to a No. 22 RPI ranking.
For better seeding in the NCAA Tournament and to move up our list, they have a great remainder of the schedule. Their final three games are against the bottom teams of the league. However, before that, they have to pass one major test at home against the next team in our SEC Power Rankings.
