Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 13: Lady Vols continue rising
Last week: Lost to Texas A&M Aggies and Alabama Crimson Tide
Last rank: 14th
Yeah, nothing is changing here. The Ole Miss Rebels have been a terrible team for a while now, and they have consistently belonged in this last place spot in our SEC Power Rankings. Nobody has been on a worse run than this team, and it only got worse this past week.
Ole Miss was struggling so bad that it was able to snap a major losing streak for the Alabama Crimson Tide, which was in its own awful slide. At 1-11 in the conference, this team is a far cry from what looked like a decent start. Remember, they began the season with a 9-1 record and showed signs of promise.
At this point, Matt Insell has to be coaching just to keep his job. It’s his fifth year, and his best performance is two NIT appearances, and he’s struggling to stay above .500 this year. That is not a good look at all.
In fact, it’s embarrassing. Forget the No. 45 ranked strength of schedule. This team’s RPI is ranked No. 131 right now. That’s second worst in the league, but the Rebels have played worse than anybody since league play began.
And that record is showing no signs of getting easier. Ole Miss’s next two games are at the LSU Tigers and at home against the Auburn Tigers. That could boost their strength of schedule, but it’ll likely assure a losing record for this team when it’s all over.
