Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 13: Lady Vols continue rising
Last week: Lost to Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers
Last rank: 12th
The Vanderbilt Commodores have far and away the worst overall record in the league. However, they have also played the toughest schedule outside of maybe two teams, and like the Florida Gators, they do have a better overall conference record than the Ole Miss Rebels.
In fact they beat Ole Miss in Oxford the last time the two teams played. Combine that with their win over the Kentucky Wildcats, and it’s down to them and Florida for second worst in our SEC Power Rankings.
We put Florida there because of Vanderbilt’s schedule strength. It’s ranked No. 6 in the nation, and that’s why they have the No. 130 ranked RPI, over 30 spots ahead of the Gators and one spot ahead of the Rebels. As for last week, there’s no shame in losing to the Georgia Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers on the road. And hey, they gave Auburn all they had, only losing that game by three points.
However, make no mistake, this has still been an extremely disappointing season for the Commodores. Stephanie White’s team took an inexplicable step backwards, and that’s not a good look for her or this program.
With the Florida Gators on the road and the final game against the Arkansas Razorbacks at home, they at least have a chance for a decent finish. But overall, it’s going to be a terrible season no matter what. So this is just a spin-job for not being last in these rankings.
