Last week: Lost to South Carolina Gamecocks; Defeated Ole Miss Rebels

Last rank: 11th

Kristy Curry’s team finally ended its massive skid that knocked it out of the hunt for the NCAA Tournament. But ending that skid came against the worst team in our SEC Power Rankings, the Ole Miss Rebels. As a result, the Alabama Crimson Tide didn’t do anything to move up this week.

Sure, there’s no shame for this team in losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks. It was a series of other losses, though, that kept them down here. And they simply have been a huge disappointment over the last three weeks.

Remember, Alabama has been taking major steps each year under Curry. Just a few weeks ago, it looked like they’d take another huge step this year and finally reach the NCAA Tournament. Now, however, that looks to be out of the question.

The Tide are ranked No. 94 in the RPI despite their 15-10 record. That’s because of their No. 84 ranked strength of schedule. Bad losses to other teams in this bottom tier of the SEC kept them from being in the hunt.

Now, they have to find a way to steal a couple of wins because the final part of their schedule is brutal. They have to face the red-hot Auburn Tigers, and their other three games are against teams in the top half of our SEC Power Rankings. Hey, at least it’ll boost their schedule strength. But it won’t help in the wins column.
