Tennessee Vols football attendance numbers and updates on the men’s and women’s basketball teams lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018.

Pretty much every major Tennessee Vols sport gets coverage for today. And it’s not all good news when you break everything down.

As we get set to bring you the morning updates on Rocky Top, football attendance numbers leads the way along with regular men’s and women’s basketball news. We also have a preview of a baseball game to bring you.

Yes, the spring is fully underway. And throughout the Eastern portion of the United States, it feels like it today. So let’s kick it off with our football news.

Football attendance numbers down – Evan Barnes, The Commercial Appeal

The Tennessee Vols’ football attendance numbers were slightly down in 2017. NCAA figures revealed that the Vols’ per-game attendance dropped over 5 percent from 100,968 to 95,779.

"The declines were part of a bigger trend with FBS schools having their largest drop in per-game attendance in 34 years. The average per-game attendance in 2017 was 42,203, which was 1,409 fewer than the 2016 season."

Tennessee basketball drops in both polls – WBIR

The Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team dropped to No. 19 in both polls Monday after losing on the road to the Georgia Bulldogs over the weekend.

"The Vols (19-7, 9-6 SEC) were previously ranked No. 18 by the AP Poll, and 17th by the USA Today Coaches Poll."

Rick Barnes addresses media – Mike Wilson, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes addressed the media Monday for his weekly session coming off the Vols’ loss to the Georgia Bulldogs and ahead of their match-ups with the Florida Gators and Ole Miss Rebels.

"Barnes listed attributes such as making shots, rebounding consistently and eliminating unforced turnovers as keys that separate winning and losing this time of year. He also has continually emphasized taking care of business in preparation, being locked in as a team and understanding roles, especially at the guard position."

David Johnson on goals for Vols WRs – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Tennessee football wide receivers coach David Johnson recently talked about how he takes pride in his guys being able to run block as much as anything else.

"“One of the most important things that Coach Tyson (Helton) — that we’re going to run the ball,” Johnson said, referring to the Vols’ new offensive coordinator during their recruiting celebration at Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville."

Lady Vols currently No. 12 overall seed – NCAA Selection Committee

The NCAA Selection committee released its overall seeding at this moment for the women’s basketball NCAA Tournament. And the Tennessee Lady Vols came in as a No. 12 overall seed, meaning they’d be a No. 3 seed at this moment.

"Monday’s reveal again identified UConn, Mississippi State, Louisville and Notre Dame as the four No. 1 seeds, with Baylor, Oregon, South Carolina and Texas close behind as No. 2 seeds. Seed Nos. 9-16 included Florida State, UCLA, Missouri, Tennessee, Ohio State, Maryland, Georgia and Stanford, respectively."

Tennessee baseball to face Lipscomb – UTSports

After losing two of three in their season-opening series, the Tennessee Vols baseball team looks to move to .500 Tuesday night by hosting Lipscomb.

"The Vols are coming off a 13-6 victory over Maryland in the series finale between the two teams on Sunday. The victory was also the first-career victory as a head coach for Tony Vitello."
