A recap of weekend games in seven different sports for the Tennessee Vols leads our Volunteers news for Monday, Feb. 26, 2018.

It doesn’t get much more eventful than the final weekend in February for the Tennessee Vols. Simply put, we have a ton of recaps to bring you in seven different sports.

And that’s how we kick off this final Monday in February of 2018 on Rocky Top. Recaps range from the major sports to lots of other interesting sports.

In fact, seven different teams made headlines by taking the field, court or diamond this weekend. Or, in one case, hitting the water.

We also have, however, a football story to bring you to cover eight different sports. And since that football story is unique, we’re going to start with that one.

Trey Smith to miss spring practice – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee Vols freshman All-American offensive lineman Trey Smith will miss spring practice heading into his sophomore year due to a medical issue. There is no timetable for his return.

"Smith is one of two returning starters on the offensive line and one of the team’s best players. He earned second-team All-SEC honors and was a Freshman All-American in 2017, when he was a bright spot amid the Vols’ 4-8 season."

Tennessee basketball tops Ole Miss – WBIR

The Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team defeated the Ole Miss Rebels on the road Saturday night 73-65.

"Admiral Schofield set a new career high in points and Tennessee held off an Ole Miss comeback as the No. 19 Vols beat the Rebels, 73-65, on Saturday.Schofield made nine of his 14 field goal attempts for 25 points, setting a new career high."

Lady Vols defeat South Carolina – Kane O’Neill, WJHL

The Tennessee Lady Vols finished the regular season by dominating the South Carolina Gamecocks again without A’ja Wilson. With the win, Tennessee got a No. 7 seed in the women’s SEC Tournament and will face the Auburn Tigers on Thursday.

"After a pregame ceremony that celebrated their tremendous careers in the orange and white, Mercedes Russell, Jaime Nared and Kortney Dunbar helped lead the Lady Vols (23-6, 11-5 SEC) to their third consecutive win against the Gamecocks (23-6, 12-4 SEC)."

Tennessee baseball takes 2 of 3 vs. UNC Greensboro – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols baseball team defeated UNC Greensboro on Friday and Saturday before losing to them on Sunday. Still, they moved to 4-3 on the year after the weekend.

"After beating the Spartans on Friday and Saturday, the Vols stranded nine runners on base and went hitless with runners in scoring position in a 3-2 loss at Lindsey Nelson Stadium."

Tennessee softball dominates tournament – David Cobb, Times Free Press

The Tennessee Lady Vols softball team went 6-0 in the Mary Nutter classic after beating the No. 5 ranked Oregon Ducks on Saturday. The win moved them to 16-1 on the year in another amazing start for this team.

"The Lady Vols play their home opener on Friday against Charleston Southern in the Tennessee Invitational at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium."

Williams captures 200M track and field gold – UTSports

Tennessee Vols junior Mustaqeem Williams won the 200-meter title Sunday at the 2018 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championship.

"The Crimson Tide scored 90 total team points to take home the title, while Arkansas was second with 88 and Florida was third with 83.5. Texas A&M (75.5) was fourth, followed by Georgia (71), Kentucky (45), Tennessee (43), Auburn (37), South Carolina (34) and Ole Miss (34), LSU (25), Mississippi State (21) and Missouri (13)."

Tennessee swimming and diving finishes Last Chance Meet – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols Swimming and Diving team had eight Top 10 times Sunday at the Last Chance Meet.

"For the weekend in total, Tennessee swam eight total top-10 times in program history and 46 total NCAA B-cut times."

Women’s tennis defeats Florida Gulf Coast – UTSports

The Tennessee Lady Vols tennis team defeated Florida Gulf Coast Sunday on the road 4-1.

"The Lady Vols are now 12-0 on the season and boast the second-longest winning streak in program history, passing UT’s streak of 11 in 2001 when Alison Ojeda was a junior. Tennessee’s all time record is 14 straight victories in 1980."
