A look into the 2018 Men’s basketball SEC Tournament with predictions
Game 13: Winner of Game 11 vs. Winner of Game 12
Watch: ESPN Time: 1:00 pm ET
Billy Williford prediction: Missouri vs. Tennessee
Champion: Tennessee Volunteers
Billy: Tennessee is 7-1 against teams in their half of the bracket. The only loss came from Arkansas which won’t even have a chance thanks to an earlier upset from South Carolina.
If you’re a Tennessee fan, you have to like their chances. I was at the game in Tampa when they played Mississippi State in the Championship game and lost. This Championship game will be different. It’s also only fitting that Tennessee wins the SEC Tournament against their old head coach, Cuonzo Martin. Vols get revenge yet again and continue to prove the projected 13th in the conference wrong.
Ian McBride prediction: Kentucky vs. Florida
Champion: Kentucky Wildcats
Ian: Once again, a rematch from the last game of the regular season. Florida absolutely dominated the Wildcats in the last matchup. The Gators did it on the heels of excellent shooting and riding the home crowd. They also edged Kentucky in Rupp Arena earlier in the year when UK was still trying to find their identity.
It is incredibly difficult to beat the same team three times in a season, and I don’t believe Florida is the sort of team that will be able to do that against a very solid UK team. With the embarrassment of a recent loss to the Gators still on their mind, I believe the Wildcats find a way to get this done. They have the advantage inside and will manage to stay out of foul trouble this time around. As the story has gone so many times before, the Kentucky Wildcats win the SEC Tournament.
Caleb Calhoun prediction: Kentucky vs. Arkansas
Champion: Kentucky Wildcats
It will be the most talented team in the SEC against the hottest. The Kentucky Wildcats are the best SEC Tournament team overall, but Arkansas has historically shown a tendency to get red hot at this time. And, as I’ve mentioned already multiple times, they are playing what could amount to a home game in St. Louis.
However, being in St. Louis also favors John Calipari’s team when it comes to proximity. So make it two of us who are predicting that the Wildcats win the SEC Tournament championship. The hardest part of this for me was the Kentucky-Missouri game. I’m not sure who is going to win that, but I am predicting that the winner of that game wins the tournament. So in that case, I’m going with Kentucky.
