Tennessee Vols morning report: Pro day recap, spring practice begins

The Tennessee Vols wrapping up their pro day and beginning spring practice lead our Volunteers news for Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

Men’s and women’s basketball seasons are over. Baseball and softball are in full swing, though, and football news is about to take over again. That leads our updates for the Tennessee Vols on Rocky Top for this morning.

Yes, as we head towards the final third of the month of March and get set to begin April, the focus on next year’s football team along with former players entering the NFL Draft are going to be major topics of conversation. Both are newsworthy today.

It’s the perfect transition on the final day of Winter. Of course, with the arrival of spring comes a ton of bad weather across the Eastern half of the country this year. So with tornadoes in the South and snow in the North, let’s begin with the football news in Knoxville.

Tennessee Vols host pro day – Tyler Wombles, Knoxville News Sentinel

Former Tennessee football players showcased their talents at their pro day on Monday. Evan Berry received some reps on offense, John Kelly ran a 4.5-40, Kahlil McKenzie worked out on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, and Rashaan Gaulden apologized for his bird flip against the Alabama Crimson Tide, noting that he just hates Bama.

"NFL scouts evaluated numerous outgoing seniors from Tennessee’s 2017 roster, plus three players who declared early for the NFL draft, during the Vols’ pro day Monday at Anderson Training Center."

Tennessee football, Jeremy Pruitt begin spring practice – Patrick Murray, WBIR

The Tennessee Vols are set to begin spring practice Tuesday. Jeremy Pruitt spoke about some personal things with WBIR ahead of the major event.

"The Vols begin spring practice on Tuesday afternoon for the first time under new head coach Jeremy Pruitt. Pruitt won five national championships as an assistant at Alabama and Florida State."

Graduate transfer cornerback visits UT – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Former Stanford Cardinal cornerback Terrence Alexander is looking for a new place to play one more season of college football. A fifth-year graduate transfer at 5’10” 187 pounds, he visited the Tennessee Vols on Monday. Other SEC schools are targeting the cornerback as well, including the LSU Tigers.

"Alexander, a former standout at John Curtis Christian High School in River Ridge, La., missed most of last season because of an injury.He appeared in at least 13 games in each of his first three years at Stanford. He finished his Stanford career with 57 total tackles, eight pass breakups, one interception, 1.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble."

Tennessee baseball hosts ETSU – UTSports

With a 13-8 record overall and 1-2 SEC record, the Tennessee Vols baseball team will begin a stretch of four straight home games on Tuesday against the East Tennessee State Buccaneers (10-6) on Tuesday. Originally scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., the start time for the game has been moved to 5 p.m. in case of inclement weather.

"The Vols are coming off a 2-2 week after posting a 5-0 shutout win over Western Carolina on Wednesday and an 8-6 victory at No. 8 Ole Miss in Friday’s SEC opener before dropping the final two games to the Rebels over the weekend."
