A recap of the first Tennessee Vols football spring practice and another player departure lead our Volunteers news for Wednesday, March 21, 2018.

Spring is here! So is a nor’easter along the East Coast and a heavy dose of inclement weather across the country. But that didn’t stop a ton of Tennessee Vols events taking place on Tuesday, and we have a lot of them to cover.

Today’s morning report on Rocky Top is football loaded. Practices are underway, which is news in itself. But we also have updates about another player leaving the program.

A baseball game recap along with a softball update are also in this report, as is a bit of golf news. But as always, we begin with our football updates.

Quay Picou leaves program – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee football head coach Jeremy Pruitt confirmed Tuesday that Quay Picou was no longer part of the Vols program. Picou leaving clears the way even more for the nose tackle position, making Shy Tuttle even more of a favorite to take that spot.

"Picou becomes the second scholarship to depart since Pruitt’s hiring. Quarterback Quinten Dormady, who started five games last season, announced in January was he was transferring."

The Tennessee Vols dropped a midweek game in a 9-6 loss to the East Tennessee State Buccaneers on Tuesday evening. The loss dropped Tennessee to 13-9 and was the second time on the year that ETSU (11-6) beat them.

"The Bucs gained their first lead of the game in the seventh inning, scoring four runs before the stretch to take a come-from-behind 9-6 victory over the Vols in midweek action."
