Former Tennessee Vols tight end Ethan Wolf on his NFL prospects and recognition for Rick Barnes lead our Volunteers news for Thursday, March 22, 2018.

We’re now in the third day of spring. And maybe, just maybe, we can start to see some weather indicative of the spring. Perhaps that will make our coverage of the Tennessee Vols a bit more normal as well.

Our morning update on Rocky Top involves the NFL prospects of one specific former Tennessee football player. Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes achieving recognition is also a storyline on its own.

And we have a baseball award to discuss. Yes, today’s news mainly focuses on individuals. But there is coverage of one of the sports teams to bring you.

So despite basketball coming to an end, the news doesn’t die. Let’s start with the news surrounding the UT NFL prospect.

Ethan Wolf aiming for NFL Draft – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

Former Tennessee Vols tight end Ethan Wolf was snubbed at the NFL combine last month. However, he is using that as motivation to do everything he can to increase his draft stock. His rigorous training after the season showed with a solid pro day.

"Wolf spent the past two-and-a-half months training at Ignition Athletic Performance Group in Nashville.Jordan Luallen, Ignition’s performance director, said Wolf showed vast improvement throughout training, leading up to pro day."

Rick Barnes receives award – NABC online

Tennessee Vols basketball coach Rick Barnes was voted as the coach of the year for his district by this select group, District 21, which includes all SEC schools. That’s one of 25 districts where a top coach of the year is honored.

"The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2018 NABC All-District coaches for NCAA Division I, selected by their peers."

Sean Hunley named pitcher of the week – TSWA Online

Tennessee baseball has had the Tennessee Sports Writers Association pitcher of the week for two straight weeks now. This time, freshman Sean Hunley won the award thanks to his performance in the Tennessee Vols’ dominant win over the Western Carolina Catamounts last week.

"Hunley tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a 5-0 win versus Western Carolina."

Swimming and Diving breaks record at NCAA meet – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols swimming and diving team broke the school relay race record to start an NCAA meet on Wednesday.

"The team of Joey Reilman, Sam McHugh, Kyle DeCoursey and Josh Walsh posted a time of 6:17.11 to finish 14th overall and earn All-America honors.The Vols had previously broken the school record last month at the SEC championships in 6:18.53."
