The Tennessee Vols first week of football spring practice and the future of basketball lead our Volunteers periscope show for Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

March is drawing to a close, and we’re back on with our video show for today. This episode focuses on the Tennessee Vols football and men’s basketball programs, as both had news that came through on Monday.

With the John Currie drama in the rearview mirror, it’s now all about looking ahead for the programs. And with spring in full swing, it looks like a brighter future is ahead for the program literally and figuratively.

So let’s get started. Here is our official Tennessee Vols periscope show. As always, you can see our summary of what we wrote below.

1. Tennessee football completes a first week of spring practice.

The Tennessee Vols have gotten through a week of spring practice. However, we haven’t learned much. Jeremy Pruitt is focusing on teaching the guys how to practice, but videos show us he is involved. And he’s moving guys around a lot.

2. Rick Barnes recaps season, looks ahead.

Rick Barnes recapped the 2017-2018 season for Tennessee basketball in a Monday press conference and looked ahead to next year. His talk only increased optimism for the program. He noted that Admiral Schofield, Lamonte Turner, and Kyle Alexander were the hardest workers. He added that conditioning held back guys like Grant Williams from reaching even another level. Finally, he hinted that there could be more bodies on the floor next year, as injuries limited Jalen Johnson and Yves Pons.

3. Tennessee-Memphis rivalry back, and is huge for Vols.

Tennessee basketball’s rivalry with the Memphis Tigers is back. The annual showdown provides greater benefits for the Tennessee Vols, but history shows that it helps both programs significantly. As a result, it’s great for both of them that the meeting has returned, as they could both be lifted to new heights.
