Tennessee Vols morning report: Pruitt “ticked” after spring practice

Tennessee Vols football coach Jeremy Pruitt recapping his team’s fourth spring practice leads the Volunteers news for Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

Welcome to the final Wednesday in March. The Tennessee Vols had an eventful Tuesday with a game in one spring sport and a football practice. Both of those things lead our news on Rocky Top for this morning.

We also have something to look ahead to tonight that involves future Tennessee Lady Vols. Comments made by one of them is a story on its own as well.

Simply put, there’s a decent bit to get to. But let’s start with the recap of another football practice. This one was a bit interesting.

Jeremy Pruitt “ticked” after practice – Patrick Brown, GoVols247

Tennessee football head coach Jeremy Pruitt recapped the Vols fourth spring practice Tuesday. He noted that he was “ticked,” and he wasn’t sure if it was at the whole team or just at the defense for getting beat by the offense.

"Tennessee is installing new schemes on both sides of the ball, and he said mental mistakes relating to the information overload were a problem for his defense on Tuesday."

Tennessee baseball defeats Western Carolina – UTSports

After a three-game sweep over the Alabama Crimson Tide this past weekend, the Tennessee Vols continued their red-hot play into the middle of the week to extend their winning streak to four games. This time, they beat the Western Carolina Catamounts 17-3 and hit four home runs in the process.  They resume SEC play on the road this weekend.

"Tennessee jumped out to an early two-run lead in the first inning and went on to add 15 more runs in Tuesday’s 17-3 win over Western Carolina at Hennon Stadium. With the win, the Vols take a 17-9 record (4-2 SEC) into the weekend series at South Carolina."

Future Lady Vols in McDonald’s All-American game – USA TODAY H.S. Sports

Three future Tennessee Lady Vols will compete in tonight’s McDonald’s All-American game on the women’s side: Amira “Mimi” Collins, Zarielle “Zay” Green, and Jazmine Massengill.

"The McDonald’s All American Girls Game is scheduled to tip Wednesday, March 28 from Phillips Arena in Atlanta.The 17th annual girls game will tip at 5 p.m. EST and be aired live on ESPN."

Amira Collins defends Holly Warlick – Dan Fleser, Knoxville News Sentinel

Future Tennessee Lady Vols player Amira Collins, who will be playing tonight in the McDonald’s All-American game, came to the defense of Holly Warlick Tuesday amidst the criticism she’s been receiving. Here’s a snippet of what Collins said.

"“I saw all the comments that were being made about my coach. I just felt like it was wrong. I felt like I have a great coach, she’s doing a great job and people are taking stabs at her and taking stabs at Tennessee when they shouldn’t.”"
