Most-Improved Player – Meme Jackson

This may seem a bit odd considering the fact that we were extremely critical of Meme Jackson when it came to our player grades. However, that’s mainly due to the fact that the Tennessee Lady Vols needed her to progress further than she did. She’s still the most improved player, however.

Jackson only played four more minutes a game this year compared to last year. But her numbers nearly doubled across the board in an impressive way.

From here sophomore to junior year, she went from averaging four and a half points a game to eight points a game. She also went from half a steal a game to a steal a game and from one and a half assists a game to over two assists a game.

On top of all that, Jackson’s field goal percentage improved from 34.5 percent to over 38 percent, and she went from 32.9 percent to a very solid 35.7 percent from beyond the arc. But her biggest improvement came at the free throw line.

Jackson went from an abysmal 42.9 percent from the free throw line to 69.8 percent this year. Of course, there’s still room to grow in that skill. But she took a dramatic jump this year.

If she does the same next year, she’ll reach the level the Tennessee Lady Vols needed her at all along. Since she’s about to be a senior, the team will need her more than ever. So this is her chance to really emerge into a star.
