Updates from another Tennessee Vols spring practice, including injury news, and the WNBA Draft lead our Volunteers news for Friday, April 13, 2018.

Happy Friday the 13th everybody! It’s been a crazy spring so far for Tennessee Vols fans, but on this unlucky day for an unlucky program, at least we can say there’s finally some warm spring weather finally breaking through.

And with that comes lots of news to bring you on Rocky Top to kick off the weekend. Yes, we have multiple football updates to bring you for starters. It includes a recap of yesterday’s practice and an injury update.

Meanwhile, the WNBA Draft was last night and relates to the Tennessee Lady Vols. And there are two other Tennessee Vols sports for us to preview. So let’s get started with the football news.

Press conference after Thursday practice – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols held another spring practice Thursday, and afterward, Jeremy Pruitt talked about a lot of things in his press conference. He touted Darrell Taylor’s versatility, noted that the coaches see Princeton Fant having more success at running back, and hyped up Saturday’s scrimmage.

"Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt meets with reporters after Thursday’s practice. The Vols will hold their second scrimmage of the spring Saturday night at Neyland Stadium."

Darrin Kirkland Jr. healthy – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee football linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. missed all of last year due to injury. However, he’s finally returning to health. Kirkland was back on the field Thursday. Daniel Bituli also practiced Thursday despite having offseason surgery. This is great news for the program.

"Kirkland was limited to individual linebacker drills. Pruitt said he might be able to participate more fully in team activities next week."

Three former Lady Vols taken in WNBA Draft – Marshall Hughes, WATE

Despite playing on this past year’s team, Diamond DeShields was the first former Tennessee Lady Vols player taken in the WNBA Draft Thursday night. She went third to the Chicago Sky. Jaime Nared and Mercedes Russell both went in the second round.

"Nared went 13th overall to Las Vegas while New York selected Russell with the 22nd pick."

Tennessee baseball visits LSU – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols baseball team begins a weekend three-game series at the No. 19 ranked LSU Tigers Friday. At 21-14 and 5-7 in the SEC, this is a lot to gain for them.

"The Volunteers come into the series on a three-game winning streak and will be looking to pick up their second SEC series win of the season and fourth overall."

Tennessee softball hosts LSU – UTSports 

While the Tennessee Vols baseball team visits LSU, the No. 10 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols softball team will host the No. 14 ranked LSU Tigers (32-7, 7-4) this weekend for a three-game series beginning Friday. At 34-8 and 5-7 in the SEC, Tennessee is looking to get things going again after a rocky start to SEC play.

"Senior Meghan Gregg will try to break the all-time home run record at Tennessee as she hit the 51st of her career in Tuesday’s win over Memphis to tie Tonya Callahan’s mark. Gregg currently has a team-leading 12 home runs on the season."
