Tennessee football’s win total for the 2018 season is set at 5.5. Will the Vols overachieve or will there be a two-year drought without appearing in a bowl game?

One of the toughest topics of discussions in the land of Tennessee football for fans who love the Vols is, “how is Jemery Pruitt going to do in his first year as head coach?” Where should the bar be set for expectations?

Will Tennessee be good enough for seven wins or will the Vols have another year struggling to make a bowl game?

Well, thanks to BetDSI, who recently released their over/under win totals for every SEC team, there is a bar set. And, quite frankly the bar is set pretty low for the Vols at 5.5. Here is a look at the rest of the SEC.

Alabama and Georgia: 10.5

Auburn: 9

Mississippi State: 8

LSU: 7.5

Texas A&M, South Carolina, and Florida: 7

Missouri: 6.5

Kentucky and Ole Miss: 6

Tennessee and Arkansas: 5.5

Vanderbilt: 5

That is rough to look at if you are a Vols fan. Basically, outsiders see Tennesse on the same level as Arkansas and below Kentucky and Ole Miss. Ole Miss, really?

The over/under total brings up the intriguing question. Is appearing in a bowl game a reasonable expectation for Tennessee next season?

Yet again, another season the Vols have the privilege of having one of the nation’s toughest schedules or at least seems as much on paper.

The Volunteers start the season with a tough matchup against a West Virginia team that could have one of the top offenses in the country. Then, they have a five-game span with games against Florida, at Georgia, at Auburn, Alabama, and at South Carolina.

Let’s say for discussion purposes that the Vols lose all six of those games. That means they have to go perfect against ETSU, UTEP, Charlotte, Kentucky, Missouri, and Vanderbilt. Could this be another long season?

There is not much room for error, but maybe the Vols can do it. Perhaps Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee can surprise the nation next year. Who knows, maybe they can win seven or even eight games.
