Tennessee Vols morning report: Updates on position changes, Quinten Dormady

Updates on Tennessee Vols football position changes and Quinten Dormady’s transfer lead the Volunteers news for Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

It’s sunny across the U.S. this morning, really signifying the arrival of spring, but the temperatures are ranging. In Knoxville, though, it’s warm and sunny. So the Tennessee Vols are in the heart of the best spring weather for today.

And that fits, after they just completed another spring football practice and played games in multiple spring sports Tuesday. All of these things lead our updates on Rocky Top for this morning.

We have updates on the football roster to discuss from the coach’s mouth and recaps of two events to bring you. On top of that, there’s news of a former player’s transfer and an NCAA transfer discussion that relates to Rocky Top. Let’s get to all of that, starting with spring ball.

Jeremy Pruitt comments further on position changes – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Tennessee football head coach Jeremy Pruitt said Tuesday after spring practice that the Vols coaches will evaluate all position changes after spring practice ends. They have moved seven players overall, including Tyler Byrd twice.

"Vols freshmen Alontae Taylor and Greg Emerson, redshirt freshman Eric Crosby and rising junior Tyler Byrd went through their fourth consecutive practice Tuesday at their new positions, and first-year Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt said Tuesday that he plans to keep them there through the end of spring practice."

Quinten Dormady transfers to Houston – Joseph Duarte, Houston Chronicle 

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Quinten Dormady announced on his Instagram page that he is transferring to the Houston Cougars. He’ll be able to play immediately. Duarte’s article here addresses what he brings to the program.

"Dormady brings experience (he played in six games last season for the Volunteers) to a position that lacks it, with King having only four career starts and Bryson Smith and Clayton Tune never taking a snap on the collegiate level."

Jeremy Pruitt comments on transfer rules – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee football head coach spoke in an interview last month about NCAA transfer rules. A guy who transferred himself, here’s a snippet of what he said regarding whether or not a transfer should be able to play immediately.

"“In my opinion, if you’ve been at an academic institution for four semesters and you do have a 3.0, there might be some thought, if you could make it all work, that it might give a guy an opportunity.”"

Tennessee baseball defeats ETSU – Kane O’Neill, WJHL

The Tennessee Vols baseball team avoided a sweep at the hands of ETSU by winning Tuesday night 6-2. With the win, Tennessee moves to 22-17 while ETSU falls to 18-15.

"The Vols struck first with an RBI single in the opening frame and would later add two runs in the second. Tennessee extended its lead with another unanswered run in the fourth inning, as Benito Santiago would hit the first of three RBI."

Tennessee softball defeats ETSU – UTSports

While Tennessee baseball made sure to avoid a sweep at the hands of ETSU, the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team also dominated the ETSU softball team. Tennessee moved to 38-8 overall with the victory, while the Bucs fell to 13-23.

"No 7/10 Tennessee scored seven runs in the second inning to propel its way to a 11-3 win over ETSU on Tuesday night at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium."
