The NFL Draft and Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer defending Jeremy Pruitt’s approach lead the Volunteers news for Thursday, April 26, 2018.

The final bit of news surrounding the Tennessee Vols football program before we hit the dog days of summer is about to begin, and it leads our morning report. We’re talking, of course, about which former players will end up on pro rosters.

As we get set to bring you today’s updates on Rocky Top, that’s obviously the top news of the day. But there’s more football news as well with Phillip Fulmer commenting on Jeremy Pruitt’s approach with the media.

We also have a recap of a game to bring you and news surrounding national recognition for some players. So there’s a lot to get to all the way around. Let’s start off, though, as always, with the football news.

Former Vols set for NFL Draft – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

The NFL Draft is set to begin, and multiple former Tennessee football players will look to see where they go. It’s extremely unlikely any of them are taken in the first round or even the first three rounds this year, a huge departure from last year. However, many of them still expect to be taken at some point.

"Tennessee went consecutive years without having a player selected in the NFL Draft in 2015-16. Then, last year, six Vols were selected, including Derek Barnett in the first round. This year’s draft will be somewhere in the middle of those extremes."

Phillip Fulmer defends Jeremy Pruitt’s public approach – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

Tennessee football head coach Jeremy Pruitt’s criticism of the fan support at the spring game and his restrictive media policies has the support of one guy: Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer. Here’s a bit of what the former UT football head coach said.

"“I liked his approach on not having the big (fan) day, because he’s trying to practice a game day,” Fulmer said. “That, to him, is important. It’s a game day for the kids to practice the West Virginia game, and East Tennessee State and all the way through, so he’s looking at it from that standpoint.”"

Tennessee baseball loses to Tennessee Tech – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols baseball team lost to the No. 21 ranked Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in a midweek match-up Wednesday 7-6. Tennessee fell to 24-19, coming up just short in its comeback, while Tennessee Tech moved to 35-5 and extended its winning streak to 26 games. The Vols next take the field this weekend with a road series against the No. 13 ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

"A two-run homer by freshman Zach Daniels in the bottom of the seventh inning cut the Volunteers’ deficit to one run, but TTU junior closer Ethan Roberts held UT scoreless for the final two innings to shut the door for his 10th save of the season."
